Safe and Sound

Monday, December 1, 2008

We've started week 3 of the renovations, and it is pretty slow-going. We have a subfloor, concrete board on top, strapping on the ceiling, polyurethane insulation at the space between the concrete and the upstairs walls, and some steel studs. The plumbing is partially done but they didn't route the drain properly and it has to be moved. In the meantime, there is a huge hole in the basement floor, and gravel and rubble everywhere.

Today the drywall and the insulation were delivered. The greenest insulation option was recycled denim, but since we couldn't afford that, we're using Roxul Safe 'n' Sound insulation in the walls. Not only is a high performance product, but it is partially recycled, and it will not release toxins into our basement. It does contain plastic, but it is recycled, similar to the subfloor material, Delta MS.

I'm hoping that by the end of this week, the plumbing issue is resolved and some of the drywall starts to go up. The guy who is to 'mud' the drywall is due on Dec 12th, and that's when things will really start to change. I can't wait!
